This large glacier is located next to Katla, the largest volcano in Iceland. As the glacier formed, the volcanic eruptions would cover the glacier in thick black ash. Then more glacial ice would form on top of that ash layer in the dormant years. Only for the volcano to erupt again continuing the cycle. So inside this cave you can see layers telling the story of Fire and Ice locked in an unending battle for thousands of years.
